The Climate of Cyprus

One of the benefits of being a Mediterranean island is plentiful sunshine
throughout the year, and Cyprus is no exception. In fact, Cyprus weather
epitomizes the ideal weather of the region with sunny days and fine
temperatures almost every day. Go2wintersun for more information on all
year round holidays. Cyprus boasts more than 300 days of sunshine a year -
here's what you can expect.
From mid-May to mid-October you will be guaranteed high temperatures, bright
blue cloudless skies and wonderfully cooling breezes from the sea. It's the
ideal time for swimming, sunbathing and water sports from sailing to scuba
diving at Coral Bay only a ten minute drive from Emba. At this time of year
you should explore the archaeological sites early in the morning or in late
afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day. Bring sunscreen and a hat!
However, even in the height of summer when it's at least 32C(90F) degrees at
the beach (and warmer inland), temperatures are refreshingly cooler in the
Troodos, making the mountains ideal for hiking or simply relaxing in the
cooler air. Cyprus weather temperatures can be perfect for everyone even in
the middle of the summer.
September and October are still gloriously sunny and the water warm enough
for swimming - it still feels like summer! Toward the end of October
evenings tend to get a bit cooler. Even mid-November can feel like summer,
it is still possible to enjoy swimming, while inland excursions to villages
and vineyards for wine tastings can be very enjoyable. December and January
are the months of Mediterranean winter, bringing the possibility of rain,
but still an average of six hours of bright sunshine a day. This is the time
of year when smaller Mediterranean destinations shut down for the season,
but not so Cyprus. The island is a major business centre and has many
important heritage sites and museums, all at their least crowded in winter.
We offer long term lets at special prices for the months of November to
April, click here for details.
February is ideal for skiing on Mount Olympus in the Troodos. Alternatively
you can hire a sledge and enjoy the snow you often dream of but rarely get
in the UK! The first orchids bloom in January in Cyprus, and by mid-February
the countryside is already alive with fresh green meadows and almond trees
in bloom. Early spring is a wonderful time to visit to Cyprus with pleasant
daytime temperatures. In April and into the middle of May spring is in full
force. In summer Cyprus is the place to bask in the sun, spring is the time
to savour Cyprus's natural beauty in bloom and winter offers bright, warm
days to fully explore the Island.
Golf

We can accommodate groups for golfing holidays. There are 3 course within
easy reach of our accommodation.
Secret Valley Golf Course is located 18km east of Paphos. It lies in a
scenic valley with big trees and natural rock formations, near "Petra tou
Romiou" the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. Secret
Valley promises players both the beauty of nature and the pleasure of golf.
The front nine offer four nice holes for warming up, two birdie
opportunities and an easy dog leg (if you know how!). The first and third
holes - par 4's 375 and 335 metres respectively - feature sand traps halfway
between the tee and the green. A good drive or a really bad one will keep a
player out of trouble. The second hole is a straight, comfortable par three.
Number 4 at 120 metres has birdie written all over it, with a tricky bunker
at the front edge of the green, which requires accuracy.
The back nine plays longer than the first nine and the challenge starts
immediately - no warm-up holes on this side. A long par 5 475 metres with
sand traps in the middle make the tenth hole demanding. Hole 13 is a big
hitter's nightmare - a short 145 metres with water in the back (winter
only). Overshoot the green and you are out of bounds: Underplay it from the
tee and bear the embarrassment of not making the green in one. The
eighteenth par 5 515 metres finishes at the clubhouse with what appears a
selection of artificial lakes on the backside of the green.
Tsada Golf Course is the first grass 18 hole course, in two loops of nine,
to be built in Cyprus. Located just 20 minutes from Paphos Town, on an
elevated position 550 metres above sea level, ensures cool breezes during
the summer months. Historically, it has been part of the monastery of
Stavros tis Minthis, which gives an air of timelessness and romance. From
the 7th tee often a monk may be seen in the garden of the monastery. It
plays to a par 72 and measures 6060 metres, a fine test for players of all
abilities. The fairways most of which have uphill, downhill or side hill
slopes are lined with fruit trees and grape vines. Undulating greens are not
always easy to reach but do have perfect putting surfaces. The 14th is a par
3 and the most challenging short hole, played from an elevated tee across a
ravine to a green cleverly set on the side of the hill. The 17th (par 5) is
533 metres and has a winding fairway crossing three unforgiving streams.
Practice facilities include putting greens, chipping areas, fairway bunkers
and a large driving range. Tuition can be tailored to suit individual
requirements and teaching can be on an individual or group basis. The
clubhouse at Secret Valley as the one at Tsada, has a wooden interior and
facilities including a fully stocked Pro-shop, locker rooms, bar and
restaurant with verandas overlooking the artificial lakes and the golf
course. The Pro-shop offers clients an array of golfing accessories, a
boutique, electrically powered Golf Carts and trolleys. A P.G.A.
professional offers tuition and guidance. The local weather conditions
usually permit an all the year round playtime.
Aphrodite Hills is the most exclusive and luxurious golf in Cyprus. The
18-hole championship grade golf course and spoil you to a holiday near the
sparkling Mediterranean. The complex is fully equipped with health spa,
tennis academy, driving range, shops and restaurants making this the
complete golfing retreat.
The Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Golf is designed around a 'village square', which
forms the heart of the complex and provides extensive shopping and
entertainment opportunities. Cypriot taverns located there will serve the
island's best cuisine.
Golf enthusiasts will be attracted to the World Class 18 hole golf course,
the largest on the island complete with a 3-hole golf academy and clubhouse.
Golf lessons are available from the resident pro.
Skiing

Cyprus is an island of true contrasts. Where else could you ski in the
morning and then be sunning yourself by the pool or on the beach in the
afternoon? Mount Olympus in the Troodos offers you the opportunity to ski,
sledge or just make snowmen! In January/ February the weather conditions are
ideal for this, dress up warm and enjoy the beautiful crisp, white snow and
fresh air. The ski club at the Mount Olympus offer equipment hire, ski
passes and lessons all at reasonable prices. There is often equipment for
sale too. There are four slopes; Hera at a length of 350m and Aphrodite 150m
suitable for beginners, Hermes 150m for intermediate skiers and Zeus which
is 500m long for the more advanced skier.
